What is American Sign Language?

ASL stands for American Sign Language. It is a complete, natural language that is predominantly used by deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in the United States and parts of Canada. ASL uses hand movements, facial expressions, and body language to convey meaning and communicate. It has its own grammar and syntax and is not directly related to spoken English. ASL is recognized as a distinct language and is used by a large community of deaf individuals as their primary means of communication.
